The state of knowlege about calcio (soccer) in the US is extremely low. This will be an attempt to spread the word about soccer through the Dolce Channel. I was talking to Bill Russo who is the host of "Live From Little Italy" the other week about soccer and much to my surprise he did not realize that one of the brightest upcoming talents on the Italian National team is Italian American from Nutley, NJ, that would be Giuseppe Rossi from Villareal, formally of Parma and Manchester United. Giuseppe Rossi is barely 21 years old and has already started on the senior team for Italy. The team that won the World Cup, and starts on Villareal (Spanish Team), and two years ago while on loan to Parma helped keep Parma from being relagated to Seris B. Then again not too many people realize how much David Beckham was overpaid at LA Galaxy. He is the highest paid soccer star in the world and currently on loan to my favorite team AC Milan. AC Milan is also home to many of the stars that helped win the World Cup three years ago. Pirlo, Gattuso, Inzaghi to name a few. It is also home to a Brazilian with Italian citizenship that turned down an offer from Manchester City remain in the Rosseneri uniform, Kaka. Hopefully with this semiregular blog I can reach a couple of more people before the next World Cup in 2010 to cheer for your respective teams with some knowlege other than what country they play for. After all it doesn't matter who you cheer for as long as you know why you're cheering for them.
